Older students seek social interaction with peers. Providing structured time for talk about content with other students has shown to be highly succesful for understanding.
Every student needs to feel safe in a classroom to be productive. This is not just physical safety but includes feeling safe to share, to try, and to fail. We learn by doing.
Sitting for long periods of time is unhealthy. It is bad for blood flow and it slows your metabolism. Allowing students to get up and move around can lead to better critical thinking.
